Why are average salaries higher for graduates in SF vs NYC?

Average salaries tend to be higher in San Francisco due to a stronger market demand for engineers in the Bay Area, which results in employers offering slightly higher starting salaries to stay competitive. Higher costs of living in San Francisco also tend to have an effect on average starting salaries as well. We do want to emphasize, however, that these differences in salary even out over time as you progress in your career.
